Wharton Entrepreneurs Workshop #47 — “Crowdfunding to Series B – Launching (Literally) a Satellite-Powered Data Product” with Chris Wake

In this Wharton Entrepreneurs Workshop, Chris Wake, Head of Business Operations for Spire Global, Inc., talks about how Spire went from Kickstarter poster child to a multinational organization with offices in San Francisco, Singapore, and Glasgow in under three years.

Chris discusses the evolution of Spire and its technology, its mission to collect data from the 75 percent of the Earth neglected by traditional remote sensing, and the implications that such data can have on industries as diverse as agriculture, mining, construction, communications, and retail trade.

By the end of this year, Spire’s advanced satellite network, which will eventually consist of 100+ nanosatellites equipped with groundbreaking sensor-technology and supported by up to 50 ground-stations, will form one of the world’s most resilient data collection and analytics platform.

Prior to joining Spire, Chris spent time working in venture capital and assisted a selection of early stage technology companies in scaling. He joined Spire as its first non-founder in early 2013, and has worked on many areas of its development from initial customer identification to expansion abroad. He holds an MBA from the University of Oxford, and his work has been featured in Forbes, The Huffington Post, and Wired, among others.
