Wharton Global Immersion Program (GIP) will take MBA students to the experience the vibrant cultures and dynamic economies of China and South America for Spring 2013. GIP is an elective course, MGMT656, designed to provide a high-level survey of the economic, cultural and geo-political drivers behind regions integral to the global economy. By attending faculty lectures and traveling abroad to meet with local business leaders, government officials, and Wharton alumni, students have the opportunity to learn from a tremendous group of professionals while also immersing themselves in another culture and building strong relationships with their GIP cohort. The course is composed of on-campus sessions, a multi-week study tour, and written assignments.
The South America immersion (MGMT 656-002) will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, and Lima, giving exposure to three unique cultures as students network with business executives and alumni, along with potential investors and mentors. The half-credit course meets once a week throughout the fourth quarter, culminating in the immersion to Brazil, Argentina, and Peru from May 15 to May29, with an optional side trip to Cusco and Machu Picchu to follow.
The China immersion (MGMT 656-001) includes Hong Kong, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Beijing from May 15 to May 30. Participants will learn from faculty with regional expertise, meet with C-level executives, and practice their Mandarin and Cantonese.
